In June 2012, Monika Wiela was walking along Michigan Avenue in Chicago when she saw a homeless man holding a sign that said “I need shoes”. As the owner of Cherrymad.com, an online shoe store, Monika desperately wanted to help him. Not having a pair of man shoes, she decided to go back later on with a pair of shoes but the homeless man was no longer there.
This event had such a profound effect on Monika. She soon began to think of ways to help people in similar situations. The day after it happened! She knew exactly how she wanted to help. And so the idea was born. She soon began to think of ways to help people in similar situations, the day after it happened! She knew exactly how she wanted to help, and so the idea for Give Back Box was born.
